Mel Colm Cille Gerard Gibson is born January 3, 1956 is an American actor, director, producer and screenwriter. Gibson moved with his parents to Sydney when he was 12 years old and later studied acting at the Australian National Institute of Dramatic Art.

He directed and produced The Passion of the Christ, a controversial but successful movie depicting the last hours of Jesus Christ's life. Outside of his career Gibson comments generated accusations of homophobia, misogyny and anti Semitism, he has previously attributed the statements to his battle with alcoholism.


Gibson has also been compared to a combination Clark Gable and Humphrey Bogart.  Gibson 's role in Mad Max series of films, Peter Weir's Gallipoli and series of films earned him the label of  "Lethal Weapon action hero."

Gibson joined the series World War II action movie Attack Force Z, which was not released until 1982 when Gibson had become a big star.  Director Peter Weir threw Gibson as one of the main characters in the critically acclaimed World War drama Gallipoli, who earned Gibson second Best Actor Award from the Australian Film Institute.
